Situated within the 218-hectare grounds of the World Horti-Expo Garden in Kunming, China, the Chestnut Forest Villas is our second project in this international botanical landmark. It consists of 32 villas and 2 reception buildings of different typologies on a forested hilly site. We were responsible for planning and designing the entire spectrum of the architecture, interior, and landscape.
Interior Design
Holistic Design Approach
The entire site is divided into 3 separate themes: Primitive, Contemporary, and Futuristic, which guided the architecture, interior, and landscape design. The Primitive theme expresses therawness of natural materials and their texture, while the Contemporary theme celebrates the purity of form and clean lines. The Futuristic theme has an "out of this world" appeal.
9 architectural prototypes
designed in modules of bedrooms, bathrooms, and in some cases living rooms, so that they can be configured differently to maximize the preservation of existing trees.
Each prototype, although different, is designed to maximize the view amidst the forest, to exemplify the sense of a retreat and back to nature.
