Façade Design @ Hainan, China

The project is situated in Linggao, Hainan, a third-tier city. The design objective entails rejuvenating an unremarkable building facade, as per the client's brief.

The design concept adopts the metaphor of "gift wrapping." Utilizing common steel expanded mesh akin to wrapping paper, the design aims to capture the essence of wrapping motion on the building.

Each triangulated panel is positioned at varying angles, seemingly haphazard yet tailored to fit the existing openings and structure of the building.

These panels are left to naturally rust, consequently forming a reddish-orange semi-transparent screen in front of the unrendered facade, accentuated by climbing plants emerging from designated planter boxes, creating a harmonious blend of colors. LED lighting strips discreetly integrated within the panel frames enhance the visual dimension and depth when illuminated at night.
