The client wants to develop a new mansion on a sizable 350,000 sq ft piece of land situated on top of a hill with many lush trees. The goal is to maintain the functionality of the family home while introducing a refreshing new home design that takes advantage of the surrounding greenery.
The design adopts a modernist approach with large cantilever balconies and accessible flat rooms designed irregularly to address weathering requirements such as sun and rain protection, while also creating architectural interest on the facade. The expansive flat roof also provides privacy for family gatherings with the best view of the surrounding park within the mansion compound. A series of rectilinear screen walls and pivoting trellis doors are strategically placed to allow privacy while still allowing ventilation and filtered light into the mansion.
The floor plan is designed as two rectilinear blocks placed on the higher half of the plot, allowing for a large park with existing huge trees as part of the family garden and green vista. This allows the design to incorporate a terracing effect of different functions and levels in the exterior landscape. The two rectilinear blocks are joined only in the center with a
common family area that allows for maximum transparency so that the courtyard between the two blocks can be visibly appreciated with additional greenery and natural light.
