KSA Satellite City @ Mecca/Jeddah/Medina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
The KSA Satellite Cities are conceptualized along two proposed high-speed train routes connecting Medina to Jeddah and Jeddah to Mecca.
The masterplan exemplifies the essence of urban planning as a form of pattern making, celebrating the intricate geometric properties of Islamic pattern. The concentric formation serves as the planning model, radiating from a dominant city center where the high-speed train station is located; this station is foundational to the existence of the satellite cities.
Concentric circular bands of decreasing density emanate from the center, and atop this fundamental distribution, a complex layering of geometric designs delineates districts, precincts, green spaces, water bodies, and nodes.
Utilizing 24 square kilometers of land, the city is planned to accommodate a population of 250,000, bordered by a rural greenbelt designated for golf courses and other rural activities.
