Solis Hotel Landscape @ Guangzhou, China

The Solis Hotel and Service Apartments is constructed on a historically significant coal oil storage site adjacent to the Zhejiang River, which played a crucial role during World War II, according to our client.

Historic Site

To prevent Japanese aircraft from locating the city's oil reserves, brick walls were erected around the silos to conceal them from enemy troops. The site features four cylindrical brick structures, varying in diameter: 30m, 18m, 22m, and 32m, respectively.

In addition to these oil drums, there is an old warehouse slated for conversion into a gourmet restaurant, as well as a vintage pre-war villa that will be preserved for the client’s residential use. It is amidst these historic structures that the new hotel and service apartments are situated.

Our objective was to leverage the landscape to harmonize the old and the new, creating features and programs that enrich the site's character. For instance, an adventure garden, which includes a maze and elevated skywalk, has been developed for family enjoyment.

To emphasize the significance and structure of the oil drums, reflective pools designed as Zen dry landscapes in water will surround them. Additionally, mist effects have been introduced to create a dramatic ambiance, both day and night.

Surrounding the new hotel, a koi pond has been established to delineate private spaces from public areas. Pavilions in various colors have been designed for ground-floor guests to enjoy the outdoors while overlooking the pond

The riverside promenade serves as a vital public space, facilitating river access to the site and integrating the landscape with the hotel's overall design.
