Tampines Neighbourhood Renewal Competition @ Singapore

This competition called for new ideas to renew the neighbourhood in this Tampines Precinct with 5,000 households. The design approach is inspired by the concept of 'root architecture' found in palm trees, where the root system is essential for providing nutrients, water, anchorage, and support. Similarly, the connectivity network within this neighbourhood is envisioned as resembling the "root architecture" of a palm tree. This network is vital for enhancing interactions among residents, fostering vibrancy, and promoting a sense of community and identity.

A Green Corridor has been established to connect the two ends of the neighbourhood, integrating existing pathways, void decks, turf, and vehicular roads within the precinct. This Green Corridor will function as a primary pedestrian traffic network for the area. Various community spaces are being developed along this corridor to encourage spontaneous gatherings, resting, and social interaction.

These spaces feature distinct landscape elements such as the Green Lobby, the Green Canopy, the Timberscape, and the central Water Plaza. All these areas are thoughtfully designed to provide visual relief for residents while maximizing the utility of community spaces, emphasizing a natural and green environment.
