Terrace House @ Minaret Walk, Singapore

Old and New Design Blend

An environmentally conscious design approach was adopted for this architectural project. The front half of the existing house, adorned with red bricks, was retained, while the rear half was reconstructed as a "pulled away" block.

The incorporation of an air well and a central vertical high volume serves to link the new and old segments of the structure, with a geometrical staircase enhancing connectivity.

Ventilated Facade with Airflow Screens

A "breathing skin" was introduced on the side facade, featuring perforated aluminum screens with minute apertures that facilitate air circulation while effectively impeding rain ingress. These design elements not only promote ventilation but also foster captivating interconnectivity within the interior spaces.

The homeowners, who frequently travel, express particular fondness for the naturally ventilated internal areas, which remain invigorating even after prolonged absences from the residence.

Situated adjacent to a busy category 3 road, this corner terrace leverages the ample road setback to cultivate verdant gardens and a swimming pool as strategic buffers against dust and noise pollution.

Furthermore, the living room space was repositioned to the redeveloped rear block to capitalize on a more expansive footprint and heightened ceilings. Meanwhile, the kitchen and dining area were situated at the front of the property.
