Wind Funnel for Air & Shade
An important design consideration pertains to the lack of cross ventilation due to the narrow plot of land, as well as the substantial heat encountered from the west-facing sun striking the front facade. In response to these challenges, the conceptualization of a 'wind funnel' assumed a pivotal role as a key architectural element. This vision encompasses the integration of a box-like semi-outdoor lounge, which serves the dual purpose of facilitating all-weather cross ventilation while concurrently providing a shield for the living room against the direct west sun.
This outdoor lounge serves as a conduit linking the double-volume high living hall to a roof garden positioned above the car porch, facilitating cross ventilation throughout the common areas on levels 1 and 2.
Timber Fins for Light and Sun Control
Composite timber fins, standing at double-volume height, adorn the front facade of the residence, spanning the entire length of the living dining hall.
These fixtures offer adaptability, enabling abundant natural light or complete closure to shield against direct western sun exposure.
An open riser cascading staircase seamlessly traverses the expansive living dining hall, connecting to the private quarters on the upper floor.
In addition, the bathrooms and the roof terrace are designed to receive ample natural light.
Overall, the architecture articulates contemporary design, integrating modern geometry with tropical elements.
