The Kunming Story Landscape Design @ Kunming, China
Situated within the 218 hectare grounds of the World Horti-Expo Garden in Kunming, China, “The Kunming Story” is a new cultural F&B shopping boulevard. The broadwalk and in between spaces of the commercial buildings, flanked by a river and hill on the southern side, are envisage to be public spaces of different scale for visitors to enjoy. We are privileged to be commissioned to design the landscape of this cultural development in this international botanical landmark.
Revitalizing Kunming's Cultural Landscape
The landscape design adopts a rich variety of materials and colours to signify the rich cultural ethnicity of Yunan province and also to create a distinct character of “The Kunming Story” landscape. A celebration of lines and edges is carried throughout the design to give clarity and definition. The neglected river that runs parallel to the main boulevard is revitalised to create a secondary street where casual activities and performances can happen. In doing so, a second spacial dimension of “The Kunming Story” is created which not only complements the main boulevard but also, in itself, a destination.
